SPECTRAL UNIT is the collaborative multi media project of Adi Newton (Clock DVA, The Anti Group/ TAGC) and Enrico Marani (TAC/Samora/ 2Blue). Primarily Based upon Pataphysics, founded by Alfred Jarry in the Later part of the XIX century and later the work of Rene Daumal. The project also intends to visualise the various concepts for live performance and presentation. This pataphysics of ghosts is particularly relevant in an era, ours, where the absence of every possible truth is now systematic, even on a social level, hiding, if not vanishing, within an absence. Therefore, the ghost of truth encompasses all ghosts, and the spectral unity gives sonic form to what is closest to the hole Daumal speaks of. Moreover, can we imagine a clear boundary between absence and presence? Perhaps it is precisely music, being inherently invisible,that is the ideal instrument to venture close to absence, to narrate its disappearance, to explore its becoming, to bear witness to the widening hole that swallows every positivism, every balance between theory and reality, and symmetrically every social or political utopia, opening the doors to a chaotic and spectral reality.

An Album entitled PRETERNATURAL has been released (Rizosfera 2023) which explores along with Pataphysics the concepts of the Landscape of memory, Parapsychology, Hauntology, Psychic Phenomenon and Archaeoacoustics.

Adi Newton
Adi Newton began his life long involvement with Sound via Painting and through a theatre Project which began his involvement with the electronic Trio “The Future” from which he founded Clock DVA and TAG / The Anti Group, both of which are increasingly considered as one of the pre eminent pioneers of 80’s experimental music. The CDVA acclaimed albums include the 1988 electronic masterpiece BURIED DREAMS & the 1980 electro acoustic THIRST ,While TAGC can site the Meontogical Research Recording series and the Ambisonic landmark Digitaria as much appraised and in Influential works.The Psychophysicist album is also considered as a important seminal work devised / produced and composed by Adi newton and Andrew Mckenzie of the Halfer Trio. Enrico Marani
Enrico Marani began his musical experience in the 1980s by taking part in the T.A.C. project and further developed his musical journey via his solo project entitled “Samora”, wherehe combines electronic music with poetry. Together with Gavin Friday (VirginPrunes) he created the music for the installation ‘The Casement Sonata’ hosted atthe National Gallery in Dublin. For Rizosfera he has released his latest album ‘Quasar’ with graphics by artist Stefano Ricci, collaborating with guitarist Eraldo Bernocchi and pianist Silvia Corda. He is currently working on a new project, Spectral Unit, together with Adi Newton (ClockDVA, T.A.G.C.).
